The psychological exam is an important step in the
hiring process. The police psychological exam allows fire and law enforcement
agencies to determine whether candidates have the ability to manage the unique mental and emotional stresses that are faced in their careers.
Psychological evaluations include on-line assessments
and an interview to determine that the applicant is free from any
emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect
performance. This type of evaluation can be done in person or remotely.
Once completed, candidates receive a copy of their assessment results and coaching if desired.
In many positions, the length of tenure or experience does not equate to effectiveness as a leader. Just because an individual can perform a position effectively does not mean that individual can lead others to perform effectively. Being a leader is about leading others. Ensuring potential leaders have the right leaders “fit” for the department or organization and can meet the needs of the position’s responsibilities is key to success. Our assessments focus on organizational culture, needs of the position, needs of direct report, and an individual's ability and willingness to adapt to meet those needs.
Ensuring new personnel, at any level, can do the job but also, can fit within the organizational or departmental culture is important if new hires are going to be effective. Using assessments, questionnaires, and an interview, Sorensen Consulting can provide a clear recommendation that relates to the fit of candidates for not only the specific position for which they are being considered but also for the specific agency as well as professional strengths and areas of concern. If there are performance concerns, Sorensen Consulting can recommend specific coaching or learning techniques that can be used internally to get new hires up to speed and performing effectively.
An organizational assessment investigates the current and desired states and then identifies the gaps that are hindering optimal performance. A systematic review is completing investigating an organization's processes, work environment and culture, internal communications, accountability, staffing resource and allocation, training and career development, job-related attitudes and satisfaction, leadership effectiveness, organizational values and goals. Equipment, and organizational structure can be included.
Agencies
and organizations need to promote effective work environments and to ensure
staff at all levels are performing effectively. In times where resources are
limited, change and growth are occurring, and influence and effectiveness is crucial, staff
need to ensure their work is getting done and performance weakness are identified
and modified to meet the needs of the agency. Sorensen Consulting develops customized 360° questionnaire initiatives focusing on both the what and the how. Supervisors, peers, and direct reports, as well as others can be included in this process. Being the recipient of such feedback and implementing changes were needed can save one's reputation and career.
Sorensen Consulting assists agencies in ensuring that personnel can meet the needs, expectations, and interests of the Department and community served. Using assessments and a comprehensive interview, agencies will know when personnel are able and willing to get the job done effectively and when they cannot.
After difficult and traumatic events, it can be beneficial to have personnel meet with a psychologist to deal with such events for long-term health and performance. This can be done on scene, after the event, or both.
Sorensen Consulting facilitates yearly wellness checks to ensure personnel have the right tools to deal with the stress that comes with the job and at home. Wellness check-ins can be done in person in Bloomington, at an agency, or remotely if needed.
